 Director of Athletics & Head Cross Country Coach

Chris Ummer - Castleton State '85

Coach Ummer has been the women’s cross country coach since 1993 and the men’s coach since 1995. During that period he has been named conference, district, and regional coach of the year numerous times. Ummer has served as the conference and regional chairman of cross country as well as men’s and women’s regional NAIA rater.

Chris004.jpgUnder Ummer’s leadership the men’s and women’s cross country teams have advanced seven times to the NAIA national championships and twice to the USCAA national championships. In addition, he teaches a number of courses in Lyndon’s Exercise Science Department. Prior to being named the Director of Athletics (2004) for the Hornets, Chris served as Lyndon’s Head Athletic Trainer for 18 years and Sports Information Director for 6 years.

Ummer is a 1985 graduate of Castleton State College (BS) and a 1986 graduate of Indiana State University (MS). He lives in Lyndonville, Vt with his wife Erin and their children Zachary, Alley, and Mason.

Jeremiah Bias - Lyndon State '05

When it comes to the men’s cross country program at Lyndon State College, the name of Jeremiah Bias is synonymous with excellence. Known to his teammates as “JB,” Coach Bias was a four-time qualifier for NAIA National Meet, a four-year member of the NAIA All-Region Team, the Vermont State Intercollegiate Individual Champion in 2003 and its runner-up in 2004.

 

A two-time Sunrise Conference Runner of the Year, Bias earned Lyndon State’s Most Valuable Runner award twice, turned in the second-highest finish for a LSC runner at the NAIA National Meet (26th place) in 2005, was named Lyndon’s Outstanding Male Student-Athlete of the Year in 2003-04 and garnered both the LSC Scholar-Athlete and Sunrise Conference Scholar-Athlete Awards twice.

 

Presently, Bias is employed as a physical education teacher for the Jay/Westfield, Lowell and Walden schools.
