 Off Campus Access Instructions

laptop.jpgIf you are a member of  the LSC community -- student, faculty, or staff -- most databases are available from off-campus.

  1. Use the library web site (usually the Articles Online page) as you normally would to get to the link for the database you want.

  2. You will be asked to log in with your username and password. You must have an LSC username and password to access databases from off campus. The Vermont State College proxy server authenticates your LSC username and password, then serves as a "proxy" between your machine and the resource.

  3. What's my username and password?

    1. For the user name, type your three initials, birth month, birthday, followed by a zero without spaces. Be sure to use all lowercase letters. For example, John Allen Smith with the birthday July 14th would have the username jas07140. If you do not have a middle name, use the letter “x” as your middle initial.

    2. Initially your password is set to your three initials such and the last 4 digits of your social security number. So John Allen Smith with a social security number of 123-456-7890 would have a password of jas7890. You are encouraged to create a new password but your user name remains the same.

  4. Still having trouble? These are a few possible reasons:

    1. Check again to see that you've used the right user name and password.

    2. Your firewall server may not be allowing your PC to pass the information necessary for you to be validated. Click here for instructions on how to check your security settings and make any necessary changes.

    3. Do you have a library fine or overdue library materials? To check your library account, click here. You can't access databases from off-campus unless you have a clear library record.

    4. Are you registered as a student at another VSC college? For instance, if you are registered as a CCV student, you need to use the VCTC library site. If you're a CSC nursing students based at LSC you may need a special notation added to your library record to get into LSC databases. You should still be able to get into databases from the CSC Library site.

    5. Did you just receive your LSC username and password? It may take 24 hours for it to be applied to Library databases.

Contact the LSC Library reference staff if you still have problems. The reference desk phone number is 802-626-6450.
