 What is Interlibrary Loan?

Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a cooperative system for libraries to share resources. Books, articles, and media that are not part of the LSC collections can be requested. There is no charge for the service, but normal library circulation rules apply for any items borrowed.

ILL is only available to LSC faculty, students, and staff. Guest borrowers and other members of the area community can make requests through their local public library. We are always happy to help everyone find information on books and articles.

For more information, see our Interlibrary Loan Policy.

Make an Interlibrary Loan Request for an Item We Don't Own Minimize

To request an article in a magazine, journal, newspaper or other periodical:

  • Make sure you have the complete citation of the article you need.
  • Check Find Full Text Journals: EBSCO A-to-Z on the library home page to see if the article is available in the library print collection or in any of our online databases.
  • If you need help with this process, come to the library reference desk or call 626-6450 for help.
  • If the article is not available in our resources, fill out the Article Request Form.
  • We will send a copy of the article to your LSC email account as an attachment. If you've made a request, be sure to be on the lookout for a message from ILL.  The entire process: request to your receiving the article almost always happens electronically.
To request a book or media item:
  • If the title is found in the VSC Libraries Online Catalog, click on "Place Request" while you are looking at the "Details" for the item.
  • Use "Multiple Library Search" (on the menu bar within the online catalog) if the item you want doesn't appear in the VSC catalog. One of the larger academic libraries on the list or a public library in Vermont is likely to have the title you want.
  • If you do not find the title in either of the searches above, use the Book or Media Request Form. Make sure you have the complete citation for the item.
If you need help with the process, come to the library reference desk, or call 626-6450.

If you have a question about a request you have already placed, call the Interlibrary Loan Coordinator at 626-6449.
