Sunday, October 28 - Green Mountain 4, Lyndon State 3

 

wscr 006.jpgLYNDONVILLE, Vt. The Lyndon State College women’s soccer team closed out its 2007 season with a tough 4-3 loss to Green Mountain College.

 

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead 2:34 into the contest, but LSC responded with a tally by Ashley Phelps (Lyndonville, VT) to tie the score at 1-1. GMC managed to build a 3-1 cushion by halftime, before Angel Phelps (Brattleboro, VT) pulled the Hornets to within a goal at 14:07 of the second half.

 

Green Mountain regained its two-goal lead at the 73:19 mark, but Lyndon State refused to die. Kelly Warren’s (Carroll, NH) goal with 4:15 left gave LSC a glimmer of hope, but the Hornets were unable to score the equalizer in the time remaining.

 

The goalkeeping tandem of Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH) and Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) combined to make six saves for Lyndon State, who finished the season with a record of 6-12.

Tuesday, October 23 - Plymouth State 5, Lyndon State 1

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Stacy DiSabato scored three goals to lead the Plymouth State women’s soccer team to a 5-1 victory over Lyndon State College.

 

The Panthers took a 1-0 lead at 1:53 of the opening half on an own goal before DiSabato tallied her first goal to up the PSU lead to 2-0. The Hornets cut the deficit to 2-1 on Shauna Buck’s (Newport Center, VT) goal, assisted by Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI), with 7:25 to play before intermission, but the Panthers blew the game open midway through the second half with three unanswered goals.

 

PSU goalies Ashley Riberdy (3) and Jill Collins (1) combined to make four saves in the contest while LSC keeper Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) had seven.

Sunday, October 21 - Lyndon State 9, Southern Vermont 0

BENNINGTON, Vt.  Lyndon State wons its second game in as many days as the Hornets trounced winless Southern Vermont College by a score of 9-0.

 

Ashley Phelps (Lyndonville, VT), Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI), Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) and Angel Phelps (Brattleboro, VT) scored one goal each in the first half, and Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT), Shauna Buck (Newport Center, VT) and Erin Shelton (Woodsville, NH) found the net in the final 45 minutes of play, to lead LSC to its sixth victory of the season. SVC had two own goals in the contest.

 

Warren and Brooke Everton (St. Albans, VT) collected two assists each while Buck, Amy Tetu (Claremont, NH), and Angel Phelps were credited with one. Johnson made three saves in the game before giving way to Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH), who turned aside three shots as well.

Saturday, October 20 - Lyndon State 4, Maine-Presque Isle 2wscr 004.jpg 

 

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) and Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI) scored two goals each, and collected one assist, in Lyndon State’s 4-2 win over the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

 

Warren gave the Hornets the lead for good 35:23 into the first half off an assist from Angel Phelps (Brattleboro, VT), and Kline upped the advantage to 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the final 45 minutes of play. After UMPI's Anna Delong scored the first of her two goals in the contest to cut the deficit to 2-1, Warren regained LSC’s two-goal cushion with a tally at 73:51.Kline scored an unassisted goal with 14:53 left to play and Delong found the back of the net at 78:44 to close out the scoring in the game

 

Hornets’ goalkeeper Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) made three saves to get the win and Owls’ netminder Billie Martin stopped four shots in the loss. LSC out shot the visitors 16-14 in the contest.

Wednesday, October 17 - Maine-Farmington 5, Lyndon State 0

 

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – Jackie Mrazik scored a natural hat trick in the first half to lead the University of Maine at Farmington women’s soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Lyndon State.

 

Mrazik tallied goals at 4:59, 13:23 and 21:22 to give the Beavers the lead and UMF striker Julie Waters made it 4-0 with 13:36 left to play before intermission. Chelsea Norton closed out the scoring in the second half (55:27) to seal the Beavers’ 11th win of the season.

 

Kerry Kowalczyk, Melissa Demerchant and Ashley Holshouser made a combined four saves to earn the shutout, and LSC goalie Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) had nine saves in the loss. UMF out shot Lyndon State 30-5 in the contest.

Sunday, October 14 - Thomas 2, Lyndon State 1

WATERVILLE, Maine - The Thomas College’s women’s soccer team beat Lyndon State 2-1 at Alumni Field. The Terriers were led by Karen Demers, who scored both of Thomas’ goals in the opening 45 minutes of play. Lyndon State stayed close with a goal by Angel Phelps (Brattleboro, VT) late in the first half.

Thomas’ goalkeeper Lindsay Thornton made 12 saves to earn the victory and LSC goalie Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) had four.

Saturday, October 13 - MCLA 8, Lyndon State 0

 

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. – The Lyndon State College women’s soccer team fell to 4-8 on the season with an 8-0 loss to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. The Trailblazers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead at the 5:36 mark of the first half on a goal by Jade Prickett and managed to build an 5-0 advantage by halftime on tallies by Jessica Tietgens (18:32), Taylor Kenyon (21:11), Harmony McGorman (29:38) and Erin Bourque (33:00).

 

MCLA upped its lead to 7-0 early in the second half when Danielle Weber and Danielle Parenteau scored one goal each in a 2:32 span, and Trailblazer stirker Karri Schongar closed out the scoring in the game with a tally at 36:48.

   

Goalkeepers Kristean Kissel (2) and Ashley Collins (1) made a total of three saves for the winners while Hornets’ goalie Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) had five.

Saturday, October 6 - Castleton State 5, Lyndon State 0

 

CASTLETON, Vt. - Tracy Stala scored three goals to propel Castleton State College to a 5-0 victory over Lyndon State. Ashley Ledoux and Kristin Mulholland had one goal each for the winners. The Spartans out shot the Hornets 24-6.

 

LSC’s Angelina Phelps (Brattleboro, VT) stopped 10 shots and teammate Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH) made two saves in 19 minutes of work. The CSC goaltending trio of Micole Bellimer, Nakita Baldic and Cady Kerin combined for three saves.

Tuesday, October 2 - Lyndon State 2, New Hampshire Tech 1

 

CONCORD, N.H. – Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI) scored one goal, and assisted on another, to wscr 011.jpgpropel Lyndon State to a 2-1 road victory over the New Hampshire Technical Institute. The loss was the first of the season for the Capitals, who were ranked fourth in the lastest United States Collegiate Athletic Association national poll. 

 

Kline scored off a direct kick from 18 meters out at the 71:00 mark of the game, and fed a through ball to teammate Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) six minutes later for the eventual game-winning goal. LSC goalkeeper Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) made six saves for the Hornets in the win.

Sunday, September 30 - Green Mountain 3, Lyndon State 2, OT

 

POULTNEY, Vt. – Heidi Diperna's goal in overtime lifted Green Mountain to a 3-2 win over Lyndon State College. Deirdre Bailey and Amanda Jeffers gave the Eagles a 2-0 cushion, but the Hornets charged back to tie the game at 2-2 on a two-goal effort by Ashley Phelps (Lyndonville, VT). Shauna Buck (Newport Center, VT) was credited with an assist on Phelps' second tally.

Van Hartless had nine saves for GMC while LSC goal Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) picked up 12.

Saturday, September 29 - Mitchell 2, Lyndon State 1

 

NEW LONDON, Conn. Chloe Madigan's goal with five seconds remaining in regualtion provided the margin of victory as Mitchell College handed Lyndon State a heartbreaking 2-1 loss. The setback dropped the Hornets to 3-5 on the season.

 

Jessica Calcaterra gave the Pequots a 1-0 lead 20 minutes into the contest before LSC's Kathy Kline (Coventry, RI) notted the score at 1-1 with an unassisted tally 15:31 into the second half. The game remained deadlocked until Madigan scored the first goal of her collegiate career to give Mitchell the victory.

 

Colleen Seymour stopped eight shots for the Pequots and Hornet golakeeper Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) made five saves in the contest. Lyndon State outshot Mitchell 17-12.

Wednesday, September 26 - Lyndon State 3, Vermont Tech 0

 

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) scored two goals, and teammate Katherin Kline (Coventry, RI) tallied one, to propel Lyndon State to a 3-0 win over Vermont Tech.

 

Hornets' netminder Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) turned aside 12 shots to record her third shutout of the season.

Sunday, September 23 - Lyndon State 9, Hesser College 0

 

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) and Katherin Kline (Coventry, RI) scored three goals each to lead Lyndon State College to a 9-0 victory over Hesser College. Kline opened thewscr 017.jpg scoring at the 19:56 mark of the first half and Warren made it 2-0 a mere 32 seconds later off an assist from Shauna Buck (Newport Center, VT). Warren blew the game open with two more goals (22:24, 28:32) to give the Hornets a comfortable 4-0 cushion at halftime.

 

In the second half, Kelseyann Regan (Allentown, NH) scored the first goal of her LSC career 38 seconds into the period and Kline sandwiched goals around a marker by Buck to up the Lyndon State advantage to 8-0. Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH) tallied a goal with 25:38 remaining to cap the scoring in the contest and send the Hornets on to their second win of the season.

 

Warren, Kline and Buck were credited with one assist each in the game while Erin Shelton (Woodsville, NH) drew an assist on Dolan's goal. LSC goaltender Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) stopped three shots to earn the shutout. The Hornets (2-4) out shot Hesser by a lopsided margin of 40-3.

Thursday, September 20 - Johnson State 2, Lyndon State 0

 

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. Samantha Cutting’s goal at the 28:24 mark of the first half proved to be the game-winner as Johnson State defeated Lyndon State 2-0 in a match-up of in-state women’s soccer rivals.

  

The Hornets’ chances of tying the game and eventually stealing a victory were dimmed midway through the final half when Casey Rusin’s unassisted goal upped the Johnson State lead to 2-0 with 22 minutes left to play.

 

Badgers’ goalkeeper Jenna Wulfson made two saves to record the shutout and LSC goalie Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) stopped 10 shots in the loss. JSC out shot Lyndon State (1-4) by a margin of 15-5 in the contest.

Sunday, September, 16 - Norwich 5, Lyndon State 1

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Dawn McNulty and Karissa Doyon scored two goals each to lead Norwich to a 5-1 win over Lyndon State.

McNulty (3:01) and Lauren Pacelli (30:34) gave the Cadets a 2-0 lead at halftime and Doyon blew the game open with two goals (5:45, 6:50) in a 65-second span early in the second half. McNulty notched her second goal of the game at the 9:16 mark before Katherin Kline (Coventry, RI) found the net for the Hornets at 21:51. Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH) drew an assist on the play.

The trio of Nicki Hunsicker (0), Tracey Breault (0) and Alecia Wright (1) made one save in the game and Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) made 13 saves for Lyndon State (1-3).

Friday, September 14 - Lyndon State 3, Southern Maine CC 0

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Kelly Warren (Carroll, NH) scored one goal and collected two assists in Lyndon State's 3-0 victory over Southern Maine Community College.

Warren set up teammate Kristie Cultrera (Northfield, VT) for a goal 36:11 into the first half and upped the lead to 2-0 with an outstanding individual effort with 1:36 left until intermission. Katherine Kline (Coventry, RI) scored the final goal of the contest, off an assist from Warren, with 32:35 left to play.

LSC netminder Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) made one save to earn the shutout and Seahawks' goal Cheyanne Larson had nine saves in the loss. LSC (1-2) out shot SMCC by a count of 18-1.

Monday, September 10 - St. Michael's 7, Lyndon State 0

WINOOSKI, Vt. - St. Michael's broke open a close game with five second-half goals en route to a 7-0 win over Lyndon State College. Sky Bryan's goal at 7:49 of the first half gave the Purple Knights the lead, but they were unable to shake off the upset-minded Hornets throughout the first 45 minutes of play.

In the second half, St. Mike's quickly upped its lead to 2-0 on a goal by Laura Wesley at 1:24 before Katie Murphy and Courtney Delurey found the back of the net at 15:35 and 17:52, respectively, to blow the game open. Murphy struck again at 30:21 to push the Purple Knights' lead to 5-0 and a pair of goals by Carissa Gildea at 31:05 and 41:22 closed out the scoring in the contest.

Molly Cole did not make a save in the game for SMC and the duo of Cara Dolan (Strafford, NH) (5) and Kelseyann Regan (Allentown, NH) (7) stopped 12 shots for LSC (0-2). St. Michael's out shot Lyndon State by a margin of 47-1.

Tuesday, September 4 - Colby-Sawyer 6, Lyndon State 0

LYNDONVILLE, Vt. - Elise Kapp scored four goals, including a natural hat trick in the first half, to propel Colby-Sawyer College to a 6-0 victory over Lyndon State in the Hornets' season opener.

Laura Sansoucie gave the Chargers a 1-0 lead 7:15 into the contest before Kapp tallied goals at 11:59, 24:40 and 38:14 to open a 4-0 cushion at halftime. Liz Williams upped the CSC advantage to 5-0 at 16:28 of the second half and Kapp closed out the scoring with a tally at 21:15.

Chargers' goalkeeper Christina Quirk made three saves to record the shutout and Hornets' netminder Kari Johnson (Brandon, VT) stopped 11 shots. Colby-Sawyer out shot Lyndon State (0-1) 24-5.
